Hanford police officer, K9 hospitalized after exposure to fentanyl

HANFORD, California (KFSN) – K9 and his pilot are both recovering after being exposed to fentanyl during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

Officer pulled a driver in the 12th and Greenfield area of ​​Hanford.

The driver was identified as 38-year-old Eduardo Opazo and when the police officer reached his window he noticed some kind of white substance in Opazo’s shirt.

A K9 officer was also arrested and K9 Kras was called to the scene to check on the vehicle.

When Krash took the driver’s seat, he began behaving strangely and fainted.

He was rushed to a nearby veterinary clinic and given Narcan. While at the vet, the K9 pilot began to feel light and was taken to hospital.

Both the officer and Krash are now recovering and Opazo is being held in Kings County Jail.
