Habitat for Humanity and Google to Launch $10M Financing Partnership

Habitat for Humanity Bay Area and Google are due to announce today a $ 10 million funding partnership to increase affordable housing in the Gulf region.

The announcement was expected in an afternoon tour of one of four sites to be renovated by the Habitat for Humanity Bay Area with Google volunteers.

Google employees are scheduled to begin their volunteer efforts at a building at 140 E. Reed Street in San Jose, with some ceremonial help from San Jose Mayor Sam Licardo and District 3 City Councilman Raoul Perls.

The loan, announced today, is part of Google’s billion-dollar housing commitment to strengthen affordable housing across the region. For the Habitat for Humanity Bay Area, the funding offers funding flexibility that will help accelerate the associations’ construction pipelines and promote affordable home ownership “in an area with a shortage of housing opportunities.” According to the municipality’s announcement.

In addition to Lycardo and Perales, event hosts include Javier Gonzalez, head of local government affairs and Google public policy in California; Janice Jensen, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity East Bay / Silicon Valley, and Maureen Sedona, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco.
