A gunman targeted authorities at the scene of the deadly crash in Chollas View early Sunday, firing on firefighters and police who were not hit.

The San Diego Fire Department received reports of the wreck, on Interstate 805 heading north on State Route 94 offframp, at 12:14 p.m.

Witnesses told California Highway Patrol that the driver of a truck swerved in his attempt to make the link at 94, but lost control and crashed into the guardrail, according to OnScene.TV.

The truck slid along the guardrail, crashing into a concrete bracket to overtake the freeway, before landing again in the lanes.

The driver died in a collision, authorities said. They closed the road to the north for about 30 minutes, while firefighters were working to remove the victim from the wreckage of the truck.

Meanwhile, OnScene reported, the male driver of a white pick-up truck on the south side of the I-805 was heading for Market Street.

As he approached the top of the ramp, he was seen pointing a pistol out of the driver’s window and firing six or seven times at firefighters and officers.

No one was hit, but CHP officers fled the scene to look for the suspect, who escaped to the Agora. A shell case was found in the Market.

San Diego Police will work with the CHP to investigate the shooting, OnScene reported.
