Group of bipartisan lawmakers looks to protect sequoias

WASHINGTON, DC (KERO) – A dual parliamentary group led by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has officially announced an “SOS” to save one of the greatest natural wonders on the planet.

McCarthy says the redwood threat to giants is critical. The Save Our Sequoias Act is calling it a “definitive” moment in fire policy.

McCarthy said that since 2015, redwood has burned 85% of its forests and eradicated 20% of them.

“Over the last three years, the redwoods have destroyed nearly 20 percent of the giant’s fires. This is a crisis and we need to act on it to ensure that we save them for future generations.”

McCarthy says the law seeks to address immediate threats through scientific studies and provides land managers with what they see as * critical new tools and resources to save them.
