Marc Gasol’s second stint with Memphis Grizzlies ended in just five days, as planned.
The Grizzlies abandoned the All-Star Center three times on Wednesday. Gasol was acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday for a draft right in Wang Zhelin, the center of China’s 7-foot, with a second round of 2024 picks and cash consideration.
According to ESPN, the 36-year-old from Barcelona wanted to start the 2021-22 season in his native Spain.
Gasol also served as the 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year during his stay in Memphis (2008-19). He is the greatest franchise leader in history with rebounds (5,942) and blocks (1,135), second only to Mike Conley in both points (11,684) and assists (2,639).
After leaving Memphis in a trade, Gasol won the NBA Championship at the Toronto Raptors in 2019.
During his lonely season with the Lakers (2020-21), he averaged points (5.0), rebounds (4.1) and minutes per game (19.1) to record his lowest career.
Gasol has an average of 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks in 891 games (866 starts).
