Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry chases NBA history with Ray Allen’s 3-point record in close reach

San Francisco (KGO)-Stephen Curry needs only 16 three-pointers to break Ray Allen’s previous NBA record, raising expectations for every splash from downtown. After defeating Orlando on Monday night, much of the debate surrounded the possibility of breaking records at home against Portland on Wednesday night.

“I think he’ll shoot a lot against Portland,” laughed Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

One game remains in Chase Center before the five-game road trip.

When asked about how he felt he was on the verge of making history, “always playing games, I clearly know I’m approaching,” Curry said.

“Keep it from sneaking up on your way of playing and enjoy the journey to get there, because it makes a lot of sense to me,” he said.

Curry is loved by his coach and teammates who are ready to watch the Warriors superstar break the highest three-point record ever.

“Who does it other than Steph? All the hard work he has spent, knowing he deserves it,” said Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins. “He is one of the most influential basketball players in history. No one deserves it better than him because he helped change the game.”

“It’s hard to break such a record, so I thought about it. Obviously, it’s great to get the crowd in the house to feel the energy,” Curry said. “I think it will be special no matter what, because I make it special and it will be a great experience for me and my teammates etc. It happens wherever you are, any basketball fan. I’m grateful when you do. You know that history is something made, but I hope I’ll be there again at that moment and enjoy everything that’s there. I like.”

So if Curry doesn’t break the record against Portland at Chase Center on Wednesday night, his next opportunity will be Saturday night in Philadelphia, the game airing on ABC7.
