Getir has opened a new front in the grocery startup war. This time around for a British advertising agency in the London High Court.
The $ 7.5 billion Istanbul-based company, which raised about $ 1 billion this year, has sued EnjoyMedia for more than £ 671,328, alleging that the agency advertised less than agreed on London taxis.
Getir’s UK division filed a lawsuit last month in which early food companies are fighting their teeth and nails to ensure that they are the first app customers think of when they need groceries quickly. It highlights the high stakes in the goods delivery market.
Getir is a pioneer in the field, delivering convenience store products to Turkish customers at home in just 10 minutes in 2015. Founded by Nazim Salur, the company plans to expand throughout Europe and launch in the United States. Its investors include Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital and Mbada Line Bestment Company.
The startup was launched in the UK in January, shortly after launching Media Blitz with distinctive purple and yellow ads. In March, Getir hired Enjoy Media, a small agency run by Arzu Küfündür, to place ads across London’s transportation network. According to the proceedings, enjoy the media that has subcontracted contracts with other companies.
By July, the son of founder Nazim and Getil’s British manager, Turankan Saruru, had begun to complain to Enjoy Media, the proceedings said.
Getir confirmed the concern by stating that it was hard data. During the six weeks of this summer, four Getir staff took pictures of 2,000 taxis in the UK capital to find taxis eligible for a deal with Enjoy Media that didn’t show Getir ads. I did.
According to the proceedings, Getir staff found 168 “non-compliant” taxis, claiming that the actual number could be higher. The total number of taxis included in the agreement was 737.
The company claims that four of Getir’s snapped cabs had ads for direct competitors. “”[Enjoy Media] We directly helped Getir’s competitors Gorillas and Zapp promote the service, “the proceedings allege.
Enjoy Media has not yet filed a defense in court. The proceedings quoted an email from Kufundor stating that the number of non-compliant taxis in July was only 63. The company’s lawyer, Ozan Askin, said, “We will firmly defend our claims and their interests.”
“We shall apply to the court to bring a third party to this claim. The procedure is still in its infancy and therefore we cannot comment further at this stage,” he added.
A Getir spokeswoman said: “Getir UK Limited can confirm that it has filed a breach of contract with Enjoy Media Limited in due course with the goal of achieving a positive and fair solution.”
