Sacramento is broken. Because it’s a culture of corruption, elected civil servants don’t know how this pay-to-play environment operates naked. They equally deny the corrosive effect on public trust.
At the heart of the latest example is Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife, first partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Mrs. Newsom runs a non-profit foundation called the Representative Project.
It promotes left-wing political causes and funds the documentaries she supervises and produces. The latest is “The Great American Lie”. In her review, film critic Patricia Ducey burned propaganda films by describing the United States as “greedy and uncaring, despite the amazing charitable donations of Americans.”
Since 2011, the Representation Project has paid Siebel Newsom more than $ 290,000 a year, for a total of $ 2.3 million, according to Sacramento Bee.
Representative projects are funded by large corporations and their executives, and are tightly regulated by state agencies, each responsible for Governor Newsom and his political appointee. These companies are actively working with governors and their agencies, where regulatory decisions have a significant impact on market share and profitability.
Pacific Gas and Electric, AT & T, Comcast, Kaiser Permanente, Oakland Athletics Owner John J. Fisher – These are examples of companies and executives making huge donations to the Foundation. These companies are actively working with the state government for favorable regulatory treatment from the Newsom administration.
This is the most sneaky pay-to-play politics.
Does anyone think AT & T or PG & E are writing huge checks? Shareholders are urging us to fund “The Great American Lie” and other Big Lies about our great country. of course not. They favor Governor Newsom by taking on his wife’s political filmmaking hobby.
Corporate donations to representative projects surged from just $ 600,000 in 2011, when Gavin Newsom became vice-governor, to $ 2 million in 2019, his first year as governor.
Governor Newsom is a direct financial beneficiary of these corporate donations through his wife’s salary. Mrs. Newsom’s income is part of what Governor Newsom and his family are alive. These companies are effectively helping Governor Newsom pay his living expenses while encouraging his administration to favor him.
Surprisingly, Governor Newsom denies that there is a conflict of interest here. Newsome bravely reveals a cynical or disturbing moral blind spot.
This is another example of California’s current one-party corruption. Powerful people feel that the rules do not apply to them. They see no problems in getting their lifestyle and household expenses undertaken by the special interests of seeking to benefit from them.
Newsom’s slush fund virus is widespread. As Bee elaborated, Attorney General Rob Bonta “established a non-profit organization and directed $ 25,000 of that money to another non-profit organization whose wife was the CEO.” “The company was doing business before Congress invested $ 500,000 in a non-profit organization run by the wife of Speaker Anthony Rendon.”
I am the governor running to end the culture of corruption. Sacramento cleaning is needed to solve the serious problems facing the state.
My three-point plan:
- Pass a bill banning tax deductions for donations to nonprofits that employ the spouses and families of elected civil servants.
- Immediately investigate all current constitutional and legislative officials to determine if they are engaged in this type of unethical behavior.
- Finish washing the solicited payment (donation at the request of the elected official). There needs to be absolute transparency as to where these funds come from and where they go.
Ironically, what people are backing their pockets is the revenue from this frustrated claim that they want to outlaw it. It’s insulting that they’re involved in fraud and they think we can’t see this about what it is.
The honor of what Governor Newsom does is to apologize and have his wife’s Foundation return all the dimes of those special interest donations, or divert them to legitimate charities. ..
Eventually, the reform will call back Governor Newsom and demand that he be replaced by an independent problem solver.
Former Republican lawmaker Doug Ose is running for Governor of California.
