After persistent problems related to the coronavirus pandemic for the past two years, the graduation ceremonies of the Fontana Unified School District high school will now be able to return to their previous location.
The early 2022 events will take place at the Toyota Arena in Ontario during the week of May 25-27, the district announced recently.
Here are the dates and times of the ceremonies for the district general high schools:
• Fontana AB Miller High School – Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
• Kaiser High School – Thursday, May 26 at 3 p.m.
• Fontana High School – Thursday, May 26 at 19.00
• Jurupa Hills High School – Friday, May 27 at 3 p.m.
• Summit High School – Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m.
Also, the next two high schools, Citrus and Birch, are scheduled to hold their ceremonies at 2pm and 4pm, respectively, on May 25, and the start of the Fontana Adult School will take place on May 26 at noon.
The last time the Ontario arena was used for ceremonies was in 2019.
The proliferation of COVID-19 caused the arena to close in March 2020, and so FUSD held ceremonies for its graduates at Auto Club Speedway and Ontario International Airport that year.
Then last year, with the virus still causing concern, the district held a ceremony at the San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino.
“We are delighted to be back in the arena to celebrate 2022 Class,” said Michael Garcia, district director for family and community engagement. “The last two years have been challenging because of the pandemic. We appreciate our partners, such as Auto Club Speedway, Ontario Airport and Inland Empire 66ers, who collaborated with the district and allowed us to have graduation ceremonies in an outdoor setting in 2020 and 2021.
Garcia said parents and students are required to visit the school and district website for information and updates on graduation at ParentSquare.
