They are all part of the Fresno Women’s Network.
Since 1987, the organization has been providing support to women business owners in Central Valley.
“In the early 1980s, local and national rotational clubs only allowed men to participate. So in the Fresno area, there was definitely a need for some kind of community for women,” said Nichola Peacock, President of the Network. Fresno Women.
The network has reached thousands since its inception. There are currently 300 people online.
Alissa McFarland, Vice President of the Fresno Women’s Network, says, “I became a member during the pandemic, I felt the need to connect. I have not had it before.”
The women founders of the network had one goal in mind – To support non-profit organizations and to support each other.
Amy Mincer, Secretary of the Fresno Women’s Network, says, “I’ve had so many different relationships with different women in our community and learned about different businesses that I did not know existed.”
Businesses under women faced different challenges 35 years ago.
Prior to the enactment of the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1988, women could not obtain a business loan without a male co-signer.
Nichola explains, “They did not see the need to support women in business. I hear now in my industry, ‘Well, your husband will take care of you.’ Well, I do not want my husband to take care of me, I want to take care of myself. I want to take care of my family “.
For Nikola, she hopes to pave the way for her daughter.
“To be successful in business, to know that there are no restrictions, you do not have to go to work for someone. There is no limit to what you can do.”
To help young women succeed, the network provides annual scholarships to college students.
Amy says, “It’s so nice to see so many of the applicants who have come all these years and everything they do for their community and for what purpose they go to school.”
Creating a path and legacy for women leaders, through the next generation.
