Fresno police fatally shoot armed man in park

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – A man was arrested by Fresno police at a park Saturday night, after police said he approached them with a gun.

Fresno County Sheriff Paco Balderamma said the four officers answered a phone call around 8:35 pm of a man firing a gun near the restrooms in Vinland Park.

Balderamma told The Fresno Bee that police arrived about 10 minutes later and found a man in his 30s, walking. He often ordered her to throw away the weapon, Balderamma said, without explaining what the gun was.

“The suspect turned around and started walking towards the police in a rage. He did not put the gun down,” police said. Two officers shot the man multiple times, Balderamma told the newspaper.

Investigators will look at photos from the officers’ body cameras, he said, adding that this is the sixth officer shooting in Fresno this year.
