San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner is accustomed to taking on opposing ball carriers. But this Sunday, he will have his hands full to face the 10-lap Sonoma Raceway as the honorary driver of the Toyota / Save Mart 350.
Warner will drive the official Toyota Camry-paced car, which will take the 40-car field to the green flag at 1 p.m.
“I can’t wait to do this,” Warner said in a Sonoma Raceway news release. “I’ve always liked being able to drive on the field around a great race like NASCAR and Sonoma. It’s going to be one of the highlights of my life.”
NASCAR Cup Series stars, including Northern California winner Kyle Larson, will return to the wine country in 2022 this weekend for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 with Sunday’s race. Tickets range from $ 59 to $ 140 for adults and $ 10 for children under 12.
Growing up in San Marcos, California, Warner started dreaming of playing football when he was 7 years old. The sense of community he found in sports not only taught him to love football, but also taught him to learn the value of hard work in football during his early years.
Taking what he learned so early in his career, he secured a place at Brigham Young University, where he was a three-year incumbent and recorded a total of 264 tackles, 32 missed tackles, 6.5 serve, seven innings (two touchdowns), five. bola recovery, three forced bolas and 13 pass breaks. His seven career setbacks rank second among linebackers in school history.
In the third round he finished 70th overall for the 49ers, where he signed a four-year contract for $ 3.97 million, with a $ 1.01 million signing bonus.
Warner’s NFL debut showed why he would have the strength to consider when he had 12 combined attacks (11 solo attacks), defended a pass and had a first-year rape. The following years were no surprise as Warner ranked 17th among the top 25 NFL players.
Warner will meet in the pre-race show before heading to the track.
