In 1998, an 18-year-old California couple got married in a courthouse in secret.

Recently, their 22-year-old daughter got married in Fallbrook and gave them a very special gift.

Jacque Ford, known as @Debloemco on TikTok, married her husband Chris when they turned 18 after meeting in junior high and reconnecting in high school, Ford told McClatchy News in a phone interview.

Ford’s daughter, Zoe, married Ezra after meeting him in church and rekindling in 2018.

For Zoe, it was more important that her parents got their first dance on her special day.

“They never got their own first dance, so we would like to give that to you, as a ‘thank you,’ for always being there for us and supporting us,” Zoe said in the TikTok posted July 6.

The new bride’s parents can be seen smiling and shedding tears of joy in the TikTok that’s garnered over 3.2 million views as of July 10.

Ford’s high school sweetheart had plans to join the Air Force and become a fireman and wanted Ford to come with him.

[–>

“I’m half Dutch, half Indonesian and have a really big family,” Ford said. “All my aunts and uncles were super involved. Since we were all so close and I wanted to keep it a secret, they thought I was too young and I didn’t want to listen.”

[–>

The two snuck away to a courthouse, and Ford hid the marriage from her family for a year.

[–>

“I was still sorta living with my mom at the time and she was doing taxes and tried to claim me, and her tax lady was like, ‘This social security number is married,’” Ford said. “At first they were upset, but they loved Chris. I try to imagine my daughter telling me she got married, so I could imagine they were hurt.”

[–>

As for their official first dance, Ford told McClatchy News “it was completely unexpected.”

“For years we’ve wanted to do something, maybe a wedding, but we never did it. I’m an event florist, so I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of weddings,” Ford said. “Weddings are in my blood, so to not have one of my own… I mean when she did that it felt very full circle.”

[–>

TikTok users jumped to the comments to share how the video made them feel.

[–>

One user said, “Now I’m crying.”

[–>

Another said, “I keep crying over strangers.”

[–>

As for future wedding plans, Ford said “the ship has sailed” and she’s very content with it.

[–>

“Our story is our story and I’ve really fallen in love with the fact that we’ve never had a wedding,” Ford said. “I love our story, so we’re going to keep it just like that.”

Fallbrook is 50 miles north of San Diego.
