A driver who fled from Chula Vista police fell head-on into a school bus and was confronted as he tried to escape holding a loaded gun on Wednesday afternoon, a police official said.
No students were on the bus and no one was injured, Lt. Scott Adkins said Thursday.
The incident began shortly after 3:20 p.m., when police pulled over the Hilltop Drive for a suspected traffic violation, Adkins said.
During the stop, the 41-year-old driver shouted at police and then left and headed south at high speed, Adkins said. Police followed with patrols, lights and sirens on.
The driver turned left on Main Street, passed a car and then got on the school bus, which stopped at a red light, Adkins said.
The driver jumped out and ran, loaded the gun in his hand, but confronted police, Adkins said.
The driver was arrested and jailed on suspicion of various crimes and misdemeanors, including possession of a firearm and possession of controlled substances.
