Fire at the old California Shellfish Company warehouse among several in past year

Several firefighters worked to put out a major abandoned fire in Sacramento on Friday night, authorities said. The blaze broke out near 1st Avenue and 5th Street south of Broadway, in heard from the Sacramento Fire Department. Several buildings are on 1st Street. Captain Keith Wade of the Sacramento Fire Department said he was aware of fires burning in shops in the area. “It’s not our first rodeo. We’ve been here several times, four that I can think of in almost a year and a half. This store behind us is part of the big fence at the former Shellfish California, “said Wade. One of the recent fires in the area injured a firefighter in February. The cause of Friday’s fire is unknown, but Wade told KCRA 3 that it was believed to be man-made. No injuries were reported. Officials said firefighters would be on the scene for several hours to make sure all hot spots were extinguished. Fires from West Sacramento and Cosumnes Fire also helped. The Sacramento Fire Department put out the blaze, officials said. Authorities have asked people with any information about the fire to visit http://crimealert.org.

“It’s not our first rodeo here. We’ve been here several times, four that I can think of in the last year and a half. This store behind us is on the main fence of the former California Shellfish Company . ” Wade said.

One of the recent fires in the area injured a firefighter in February.

The cause of Friday’s fire is unknown, but Wade told KCRA 3 that the fire was believed to have been caused by a man.
