Amanda Quinonez, 30, served as an English-language art teacher, as well as the swimming and water polo coach at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in East Vale, California.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to the school’s allegations that Quinonez “committed abusive acts” with the underage student.

The investigation revealed that one male student was involved and that Quinonez sent ‘explicit’ photos of a ‘sexual nature’ to him.

Quinonez was jailed Tuesday at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, California.

It is unclear how long Quinonez was coach or whether the student involved was on the team.

Eleanor Roosevelt High School has a water polo team for both boys and girls. The school’s athletic website does not mention itself as the coach of either water polo teams nor the swimming teams, although in 2018 school newspaper function lists her as the JV / Freshman boys’ coach.

Roosevelt High School Director Dr. Greg Anderson, who took the position in early 2021, said the Corona-Norco School District and the school have zero tolerance for behavior that puts students at risk.

Quinonez’s employment status after the arrest was not disclosed. She’s still in the school’s staff folder.

This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at (951) 203-4306.

This is the second time in recent years that the Southern California school has had to deal with the sexual abuse of a coach and teacher.

In 2019, Joe Robles Jr., a then 36-year-old cross-country and track coach, was indicted on charges of rape and other crimes following allegations of sexual assault and harassment of female students, NBC Los Angeles reported.

He has since been convicted, according to the lawyer.
