FBI, SDPD investigating attempted robbery at Rancho Bernardo bank

A man left a Rancho Bernardo bank empty-handed after trying to rob a cashier using a demand note Monday afternoon, according to the FBI.

The failed robbery attempt took place shortly before 4:30 p.m. at the California Bank & Trust branch on Bernardo Center Drive across from Rancho Bernardo Town Center, officials from the FBI’s San Diego field office said in a press release.

The would-be robber gave a receipt to the cashier but fled before receiving any money, according to the FBI.

Authorities described him as a white man in his 30s with dark hair that was cut short and clean and well-bearded. It stood between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, with slender construction. He was wearing big sunglasses, a light Hawaiian-style shirt over a white T-shirt, dark pants and brown boots.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity was asked to contact the FBI at (800) 225-5324 or tips.fbi.govor the San Diego County Crime Stoppers Anonymous Advice Line at (888) 580-8477 or online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
