A California father who had a disability against him and was on a guided visit with his children at a church in Sacramento has shot dead four people, including his three young children.
The father still to be named then turned the gun on himself at the church at the edge of the California state capital in the Arden Mall area of the city.
Sgt. Rod Grassman of the City Police Department also confirmed that a fifth person was killed, however, it is unclear if that person was also a family member.
The victims included the father’s own children, all under 15 years old, Grassman said. He did not know her gender.
The incident began Monday at 5:10 p.m., when officers were called to The Church in Sacramento, reports ABC 10.
The shooting happened in the main room of the small church. Emergency services were alerted after an employee at the church above heard gunshots and called 911.

Grassman said he did not know if the family members belonged to the church, which sits on a mostly residential block near a commercial area east of downtown Sacramento, CBS13 reported.
It was not immediately known how many people were at the church and whether there were services or activities at the time of the shooting. The church is known for holding Bible study classes for children and teens, though no one was scheduled for Monday.
Until now, a possible motive for the shooting had not been released, but the sheriff’s office said it was a case of domestic violence.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg also tweeted Monday night about the incident.
‘This is an unspeakable tragedy. It happens too often, and last night it happened in our backyard. The first thoughts are with the victims and their families. Same for the first responders who have to face such a horrible scene. ‘

In addition to emergency services, a SWAT team was also called in when officials tried to secure the report. ABC 10.
Video footage of the scene showed a heavy police presence outside the church in the Arden Arcade area outside the city limits.
‘Please be aware and look out. Local law enforcement agencies are responding to a mass victim shooting event in the county at a church on 2041 Wyda Road, ‘Sacramento Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra said on Twitter. ‘Please be alert while responding to local law enforcement policies in the area.’
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department told the public to avoid the area because of the large police presence, and said it had established a command post in the area.
