“See how many people love you,” said Nicholas Hasted, as if he were talking to a little Liam.
In front of a crowd of family and friends, Hasted described Liam as a smiling little boy who loved La Collina Park in San Jose.
“This was his second home,” Hasted said.
“Every time … every day … here,” added Liam’s godfather Michael Velasco. “This is the park he wants to go to.”
“That hill, he hit me,” Husted continued.
Now, a difficult battle to understand what happened to his son.
Liam’s body was found on May 28 at Trailhead, a suburb of Las Vegas. He was officially identified earlier this week after an investigator was inspired by a family friend who recognized the child’s sketch and called the police.
“He wasn’t worth it,” Hasted told reporters Thursday. “And that’s the hardest part. I know I wasn’t there to protect him.”
Through a national investigation, the FBI found and arrested Liam’s mother, Samantha Moreno Rodriguez, 35, in Denver on Tuesday morning.
“He wasn’t worth it,” Hasted said in tears. “And that’s what I wanted him to know … he was a good boy and he didn’t do anything wrong.”
“And dad loves him so much,” he shared.
Hasted said he last met Liam on May 23, the night before he went to work.
“Usually I slept with him, but I didn’t sleep on Sunday. Usually I was in bed and holding his hand, but I didn’t. These are the ones I’ll never do again. It’s the type that doesn’t go back, “he said. ..
But Hasted has memories with him. He called Liam wise, energetic and mischievous.
“He was great,” he added after looking back.
Hasted will soon forget his son’s favorite place, the moment at La Collina Park, Liam’s “second home.”
“I just look in every direction and look at him,” Hasted said. “It’s good to be here with him.”
