“We didn’t find him. Maybe I cried because I was so upset,” Laughlin said. “I’ve only got about a month.”

That was until Dirk and Kelli Byasee of Vacaville actually caught the ring.

“The lake is low. I’m walking around the bank looking for a fishing scale and fishing gear. I turned over a rock and there it was,” Dirk said.

Kelli posted pictures of the ring on Facebook, and with the help of social media, Laughlin’s blacklist was discovered and her son was contacted to help restore the ring.

Laughlin thinks the ring will reach Alabama every day now.

“The first thing I do is maybe try it – see if it still fits,” Laughlin said.
