FAA to give airports $1 billion for terminals and upgrades

The Biden administration says it will spend nearly $ 1 billion to renovate airports across the country.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday that the money will be channeled to 85 airports. Projects include $ 60 million to renovate Denver Airport’s terminal and bag management system, and $ 50 million each for Boston’s Logan Airport and Florida’s Orlando International Airport.

Detroit and Philadelphia’s major airports will receive more than $ 20 million each to renovate toilets. The grants are the first tranche of $ 5 billion from airports included in a major infrastructure bill signed by President Joe Biden last year. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg praises the expense, saying American airports need it.

The Associated Press reported that more than 500 airports had applied for $ 14 billion in subsidies.

The innovations come as demand returns to pre-pandemic levels.
