Environmentalists oppose more life for Diablo Canyon power plant

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Many environmental and anti -nuclear groups are opposing an attempt to extend the working life of California’s last nuclear plant.

A group with the San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace, the Oregon Conservancy Foundation and the Ohio Nuclear Free Network say the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant is old, safe and very close to earthquake damage.

The plant between San Francisco and Los Angeles will be closed by 2025.

The state is facing a power shortage, said Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom told the owner of the Pacific Gas & Electric plant to consider turning the tables and seek to keep the plant open for a long time.
