Eight rushed to hospital after car slams into middle school as students & staff are ordered to shelter in place

EIGHT adults were injured after a passenger car crashed into a building at Tomas Rivera Middle School.

Authorities say three of the injuries are moderate and five are minor. However, no one is life-threatening.

The accident happened at 1:14 p.m., according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Edward Soto.

“The driver crashed into the building, injuring the victims,” ​​Soto told City News Service. “We do not know the circumstances, but the driver is working closely with investigators.”

The driver is among the injured, but her name is not known at this time.

Several emergency units were dispatched to the scene, finding that the sedan had crashed into one of the buildings on campus, occupying nearly an entire city block.

“Thomas Rivera Middle School has set up a shelter due to a traffic collision that occurred on campus,” the Val Verde Unified School District Police Department wrote on Twitter.

“Several staff members were injured. No students were injured.”

People have been warned to stay out of the area.
