Rancho, California San Diego — With about 8,000 homeless people in the region, some locations in East County’s unincorporated area are being sought by San Diego County to provide homeless shelters, housing, and support services. Can be provided.
The vacant park-and-ride lot along Avocado Boulevard in Rancho San Diego has been closed for some time and the county is considering using it for safe night parking.
“Is there a toilet for safe parking? Is there a shower? They call it a safe parking lot, but is it really safe for the homeless and the community?” The president, Ann Kruger, asked. Helix Improvement Association.
After learning about the proposal, Kluger said he asked the county office of the homeless solution to hold a webinar with the community on what decisions could be made.
“We set up this webinar because we wanted to give the community an opportunity to give their feedback,” Kruger said. “We have a lot of compassion for the homeless and we are grateful that the county is trying to find a solution. But many are not the right place to put this. I feel. “
The parking lot is right next to the shopping center and close to the nursery facilities.
“You can see homeless activities in the square there,” said a resident of Mount Helix. “I don’t know if it’s the best idea to have a homeless shelter next to a nursery center. Obviously, we need to do something to help these people.”
San Diego County was considering using parking for shelters and bedroom cabins, but the site is currently unsuitable for these services, so the evaluation process for this site and other sites. Is underway and the decision is not imminent.
The county-sponsored webinar is scheduled for Tuesday at 9am
