The magnitude 4.6 quake that shook Southern California on Friday night was the strongest of the other quakes reported in the Salton Sea region.
According to preliminary data from the United States Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 9:39 pm, miles away from the town of Niland in Imperial County near Lake Salton.
Before and after the quake, there was a series of tremors of 3.0 and above, including a magnitude 4.1 quake that occurred about 10 minutes after the major quake.
There was a tremor in the same area where the magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck on Saturday.
