Dundonald Links will welcome world No.1 Jin Young Ko to the Women’s Open

Two-time major champion and current world number one Jin Yong Ko is set to headline the 2022 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links this month.

She will be joined by fellow major champions Minji Lee, Jennifer Kupcho and 2022 KPMG PGA Championship winner Ying Ji Chun.

The South Korean has spent four stints as number one, giving her a total of 130 weeks at the top.

She climbed to the top of the Rolex rankings for the first time in April 2019 after winning what is now known as the Chevron Championship. Later that year, she won her second major title at the Amundi Evian Championship and regained the top ranking.

The 26-year-old is already one of South Korea’s most decorated golfers with 13 LPGA titles, two LPGA Player of the Year awards and three LPGA Leading Money Winner awards in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Ko began the season with a history-making win at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in February, which saw her set the all-time LPGA Tour record for most consecutive rounds in the 60s (15) and most rounds under par in a row (30) which she extended to 16 and 34 before a two-over par first round at the year’s first major, The Chevron Championship, ended that streak.

She also claimed four top-five finishes this season, including a fourth-place finish at the US Women’s Open earlier this month.

Ko did not compete in last year’s AIH Open in Carnoustie, which means she will return to Scotland having not played the Links since her debut at the 2018 Scottish Open, where she finished third.

Ko commented: “I haven’t been back to Scotland since I first played this event in 2018 so I’m really excited to be back in the summer.

“Even though links golf is difficult, I really enjoy experiencing different conditions that are not available in Korea or anywhere else in the world.

“I haven’t traveled much outside of Asia or the Americas in the last few years, so I’m looking forward to enjoying the Scottish food and beautiful scenery while I’m there, as well as seeing how the event has changed since I was last there four years. therefore.”

The tournament takes place from July 28 to 31.
