Local teachers have challenged the authenticity of the self-proclaimed profession of city council candidate Dulce Vazquez as an “educator” and called on Vazquez to stop misleading voters with his name on the ballot.

“She is not an educator,” said primary school teacher Ingrid Vileda. “Simply put, Dulce Vazquez does not respect our schools, teachers and our community with his actions.”

Dulce Vazquez is seeking to oust Council member Kieran Price in the upcoming elections in the Council’s 9th constituency.

Vasquez grew up in Florida, lived and worked in Illinois, and currently works at Arizona State University. ASU’s official website and recent professional CV list her position as “Director of Strategic Partnerships”. In this role, Vazquez “is responsible for the development of strategic partnerships and alliances throughout the university.”

Additional responsibilities related to her work at ASU include “special project management” and liaison with Fortune 500 companies, according to Vazquez’s biographies, on the websites of the Los Angeles County Federation and the Pacific International Policy Council.

A review of the nomination documents that Vazquez signed and presented to the Los Angeles city official shows that she has identified “teaching” as a profession that will be listed next to her name on the ballot instead of her current position.

“Dulce Vazquez must stop misleading voters about her profession,” said local high school teacher William Morales. “If she does not do the right thing, I hope that the city election officials will step up and make things right.”
