Oceanside, CA (CNS) – A 25-year-old Vista man drunk driving after crashing a car on an offramp on Oceanside Interstate 5 and killing a 22-year-old Oceanside man in the backseat. Was arrested on suspicion of. Wednesday.
The crash occurred on Tuesday at about 9:50 pm on a transition ramp from Interstate 5 to State Highway 76, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mark La Turippe.
The driver of the Honda Accord sedan was moving at high speed when entering the transition ramp, drifting to the left, hitting the embankment next to the roadway, and flipping the car, Raturippe said. When the sedan rolled, unrestrained passengers in the back seats were expelled.
After that, Honda began to rest on the roof in the left lane of the transition ramp.
The exiled passengers were airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was sentenced to death, officials said. The victim’s name was withheld until family notification was given.
A 23-year-old Carlsbad man in the passenger seat and a Honda driver were each treated for minor injuries, Raturippe said.
Investigators said he had arrested a driver who was later identified as Vista’s Tyler James Cochrane on suspicion of drunk driving. Cochrane was booked in Vista Detention Center and was expected to be charged with felony drunk driving and manslaughter.
