Doug Emhoff, incoming Second Gentleman, to join faculty of Georgetown Law

Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, will join the Georgetown Law School next month.

Emhoff acts as a prominent visitor from practice and teaches a two-credit course in the spring semester called the “Entertainment Law Conflict.”

He is also a prominent fellow at the Institute of Technology and Policy in Georgetown Law. This is part of a new law school entertainment and media law initiative that includes a speaker series and other projects.

Entertainment attorney Emhoff planned to quit private law practice by the time he took office and focus on the White House’s duties as a second gentleman. His company, DLA Piper, is lobbying Washington, so he wanted to avoid the emergence of conflicts of interest.

The Biden-Harris transition team states that Emhoff’s role in Georgetown is separate from his role as Second Lady, and he is working on developing a portfolio to support the administration’s work.

The next First Lady, Jill Biden, is an educator who wants to continue teaching at community colleges.
