A trip on Disney’s youngest cruise reminded me of an important lesson about travel and entertainment – don’t let your expectations stop you from having a good time.

The new Disney Cruise Line, Disney Wish for 4,000 passengers welcomes its first guests in Florida this month, but Disney has invited several hundred reporters on board for a media preview in late June. He was looking forward to three very exciting new experiences on the boat: the roller coaster AquaMouse, which Disney called its “first attraction at sea,” a brand new and brand new one. Star Wars hyperspace salonand a Marvel-themed interactive dinner show called “Avengers: Quantum Encounter.”

None of the three gave what they expected.

The AquaMouse has promised scenes of shows not found in the AquaDuck roller coasters aboard other Disney cruises. But the show’s new tunnel on the lift hill of this roller coaster looked more, in a reader’s words, like a “computed tomography tube”. The tube included some basic screens showing clips from a new Mickey Mouse cartoon, but if not, this was pretty much the same ride as the AquaDuck.

Which is great. Once I let go of my expectation of a more immersive attraction experience, I loved soaking up the launches and contemplating the incredible views from the clear tunnels of the ride above the boat.

Online fans dragged the Wish’s Hyperspace Lounge for its mediocre theme, inspired by a lounge of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the lowest-grossing Star Wars live-action film. It is also a small space, forcing many passengers to wait for a seat. But while I waited, I fell in love with The Bayou, a “The Princess and the Frog” themed lounge located outside the entrance to the Hyperspace Lounge. It is a charming space, adorned with magnolia flowers and serving fun drinks and snacks.
