The recovery operation was completed a few hours after the search and rescue teams were called to the lake on Sunday afternoon, after two men allegedly went under the water.
A man was out of the water when the first correspondents arrived. He was rushed to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Diving teams picked up the second man on Sunday night. His death was confirmed at the scene.
It was a full afternoon at the lake, challenging for first responders.
“There were a lot of people around, and one of the things is getting people out of the water,” Jeff Stricker said in the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said the lake has plant life at the bottom that can easily get confused around swimmers and could be dangerous.
“If you get confused about it, it can get you down. It can be a dangerous place to swim,” Stricker said.
There are certain swimming areas in Lake Avocado that authorities say are safe for swimming, but beyond these designated areas, water is dangerous.
