DHS instructed to consider exempting Ukrainian refugees from Title 42 –

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Ministry of Internal Security has been instructed to consider the exclusion of Ukrainian refugees from Title 42 due to the humanitarian crisis created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Title 42 allows the federal government to take emergency action to “stop the spread of communicable diseases” in the United States.

US authorities have been urged to decide the situation on a case-by-case basis.

The exemption would allow a refugee to live and work legally in the US for one year.

However, supporters of immigrants have described this exception as unequal and discriminatory.

Immigration Attorney Esther Valdes Clayton joined KUSI’s Jason Austell in “Good Morning San Diego” to discuss the details of this exception.
