Deputies Collect 162 Unwanted Firearms at Encinitas Guns for Gift Cards Event
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Sunday worked with law enforcement and community partners in an ongoing campaign to remove unwanted weapons from the streets.
The audience handed over a total of 162 firearms during the Guns for Gift Cards event at MiraCosta College in Encinitas.
Participants received a $ 100 gift card for revolvers, rifles and shotguns or a $ 200 gift card for assault rifles.
The event was attended by MPs from the North Coast Sheriff’s Station, along with the San Diego District Attorney’s Office and the cities of Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar.
Any indication that firearms have been implicated in a crime will be investigated by law enforcement, sheriff officials said. If weapons are found to have been stolen, we will contact the original owners. All other weapons will be destroyed.
