Denzel Washington calls Shakespeare ‘the gift that keeps on giving’ with latest role in ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’

HOLLYWOOD-Actor Denzel Washington is no stranger to Shakespeare. While playing the title role of Joel Coen’s “Tragedy of Macbeth,” he is now involved in “double, double labor and trouble,” as the original suggests.

Oscar winners are longtime fans of Shakespeare’s story.

“It’s a gift that keeps giving. You have to unleash it. You have to meet Shakespeare where he is. You can’t lower Shakespeare to your level. You can’t bring this to your level. You have to go up to the level, “Washington said. “It’s a criterion that your normal chop isn’t enough to get over you!

This version of Macbeth was written and directed by Joel Coen and shot entirely in black and white on the sound stage. While you know you are watching a movie, there are times when you may feel that you are watching the stage correctly.

“He’s a genius. I don’t even know what he was thinking. I just know you, I’m glad I was there!” Washington said.

Macbeth is the man who kills the king to rob him of the crown … but he has to deal with the guilt and delusions that follow … with some action along the way.

As for the movie props … I thought the actor might have taken the crown as a souvenir.

“I forgot if I did it. I don’t have it-I think I had it. I think I did it. I had to go, I had to go when I got home-I’ll let you know tonight!” Washington laughed.

“Tragedy of Macbeth” was released exclusively in theaters and is currently streamed on Apple TV +.
