Day Around the Bay: SFUSD Has Hired Themselves a New Superintendent

  • Meet Matt Wayne, current Superintendent of the Hayward Unified School District, who will serve as Superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District. Despite a “national search,” the district selected a Bay Area candidate with experience turning a district around in a crisis. According to the Chronicle, Wayne took over the Hayward District when “the school board fired their previous superintendent for alleged misuse of public funds and an explosive temper.” [Chronicle]
  • The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority demolished the building that once housed it Mass shooting that killed nine people last May. The VTA has yet to resolve the matter of an estimated $140 million in damages over which victims’ families are suing, with an alleged “work culture criticized as toxic.” [Bay Area News Group]
  • The 49ers’ 2022 schedule has just been released, and the team has five slamming prime-time games. The Niners are getting two NBC Sunday Night Football games (Broncos and Chargers), two Monday Nighters (Rams and Cardinals), and a Thursday night Seahawks game that, sigh, will only be available on Amazon Prime.
