Crews investigating garage fire in east central Fresno

FRESNO, CA (KFSN) – Authorities are working to determine what caused a fire in a garage at a home in downtown Fresno on Monday morning.

It happened just before 5:30 on Chestnut Avenue near McKenzie Avenue.

Firefighters say a man walking next to the house saw the smoke and called 911. When the crews arrived, they quickly extinguished the flames.

Five people were inside at the time of the fire. Firefighters helped everyone out.

Investigators say the fire appears to have started near a couch. They were told that someone was staying in the garage, but were asked to leave on Sunday.

An arson investigator is working to determine the official causes of the fire.

No one was injured and no damage was done to the house.

Authorities have closed Chestnut Avenue to the north, and crews are continuing their investigation. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
