The San Diego County Free Season 2022 Summer Movies in the Park kicks off Saturday, May 28 with an event at 6 p.m. and the sunset screening of Walt Disney’s “Encanto” animation at Waterfront Park.
To celebrate the opening, there will be plenty of functions and free fun for kids and families, including a “live” character Mirabel Madrigal – Encanto’s fantasy heroine – bounce houses, themed crafts, music, games and other free activities. Although the film begins at dusk, about 15 minutes after sunset, activities are expected to begin at 6 p.m.
Summer Movies in the Parks events are a great way for families and friends to enjoy the countryside, beautiful parks, the night sky and great movies. Just bring a blanket or lawn chair, maybe a picnic basket, relax and enjoy adventures, comedies, superheroes and classic kids cartoons.
Now in its 14th year, the County Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with eight cities and many local sponsors, including the sponsor Rose SD Realtor Group, to expand the number of movies and parks over the years.
This year’s program includes more than 150 movie screenings in parks across the county, including 55 in San Diego County parks and facilities through Oct. 29.
Some of the films that will be screened this summer include: Mel Brooks’ classic comedy “Young Frankenstein” and the adventure comedy “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, starring Rock. “Free Guy”, the adventure comedy for a video game character that suddenly comes to life. Marvel Action Adventure, “Spider-Man: No Way Home?” the animated musical comedy “Sing 2”; and the classic adventure-comedy-romance, “The Princess Bride”.
Here is one full list of movies to be screened at County Parks until October. To see the full list of upcoming movie events in all city and county parks this summer, and for more information on them, go to Summer movies in the park.
