County to Shift, Increase COVID Testing in Southeastern San Diego | News

The county is enhancing its COVID-19 testing capabilities in southeastern San Diego. With the closure of the Tabman Chavez Community Center, several local churches have been strengthened to provide a location for COVID-19 testing in the area.

This shift will continue to give the community access to free testing. This move will increase test availability from 5 to 7 days between locations.

Starting Sunday, September 26th, unreserved COVID-19 testing will be available at the following sites:

Sunday and monday

9:00 am to 3:30 pm

Bayview Baptist Church

Monday friday

From 10:30 am to 5:30 pm

Southern Baptist Convention in Encant

“The summer surge in COVID-19 cases has increased the demand for testing. We thank these partners for helping bring new testing opportunities to the community,” said Wilma J. of MPH. Dr. Wooten said.

The Tabman Chavez Community Center closed on Thursday, ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Southeast Livewell Center next week. The new project will replace and expand the public event space previously available at the Tabman Chavez Community Center.

The center has played an important role in responding to COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic. Since June 29, 2020, we have provided 182,082 COVID tests and 5,705 vaccinations.

The Tabman Chavez Community Center is open Sunday through Thursday for COVID-19 testing as vaccination services have moved across the street to the larger Joe and Vijacobs Centers in recent months.

Vaccinations will continue to be available from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at both the Jacobs Center (404 Euclidean Avenue, San Diego, CA 92114) and the Mountain View Education and Culture Complex (4343). .. Ocean View Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92113).
