Council member Kieran Price (D-9th County) hosted a press conference in honor of various organizations responsible for growth in the Ninth and surrounding areas of Los Angeles. “What an honor to be with you this morning – among the most respected, courageous, far-sighted leaders in South Los Angeles,” Councilor Price began with an encouraging word, highlighting the many different paths he relies on. community who attended the Banc of California Stadium.

Price continued: “I am happy to provide $ 1.5 million to 100 organizations and these are not loans, these are grants. This will serve as a means of expanding future services and programs for our most vulnerable neighbors. ”

Price describes non-profit communities as “shadow governments” in the ninth district. He explained that these organizations meet the needs in different ways. “I want to thank every organization that has gone through an extensive vetting process.”

The organizations were reviewed by community leaders; they monitored and selected their proposals based on their presence in the ninth district and surrounding areas. Organizations that make a difference in the new ninth and beyond include Brotherhood Crusade, LA Commons, LA Mission, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Urban Uplift, Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services and the South Central Neighborhood Council, plus many others.

Brotherhood Crusade President and CEO Charisse Bremond shared his thoughts at the conference, saying: “When I think of the new ninth, I think of visionary leaders. I wonder why Brotherhood Crusade is here today. As he (Price) mentioned, the organization was founded by my late father, Walter Bramond, in 1968, but it wasn’t just my father, it was the Black Congress. ”

Bremond continued: “It was a group of people who had the vision to do what was right in the new ninth. After my father, the great leadership of Danny Bakewell Sr., who has run our institution for 35 years and so they are pioneers, but more importantly, they care about what is happening in our community. ”
