Patients from Brazilian private health providers were unaware that they would become “Guinea pigs” in a study of drugs containing hydroxychloroquine that had not been proven effective against Covid-19, a parliamentary study said.
Twelve whistleblower lawyers who worked for the medical group Prevent Senior also refused to prescribe a drug combination to Brasilia senators on Tuesday, and doctors there would be dismissed. He said it was dangerous.
The accusations were reported in hours of testimony in a parliamentary investigation into Brazil’s response to the coronavirus crisis, which claimed the lives of about 600,000 people in the most populous country in Latin America.
A member of the committee told Prevent Senior after receiving documents containing evidence of suspected misconduct in the case of Covid-19 due to the experimental use of the antimalarial hydroxychloroquine with the antibiotic azithromycin. I’m in focus.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has promoted the use of such drugs as a form of “early treatment” for respiratory illness, despite the lack of clinical evidence.
According to the Senate website, complaints to Prevent Senior include data manipulation, lack of transparency, and concealment of the deaths of patients who participated in the study. He added that nine people died during the study, but the author mentioned only two.
Prevent Senior violently denied all claims. “These are unfounded accusations, based on messages that have been truncated or edited and leaked to the press, and will be dismantled through investigations,” he said.
Bruna Morat, a lawyer representing the 12 doctors who worked for the company, said Tuesday that the alleged practice indicated “a lack of respect for people’s lives.”
She argued that the deployment of so-called “Covid kit” medications within the healthcare group was aimed at preventing patient hospitalization and thereby saving costs.
Prosecutors in São Paulo have created a task force to investigate the allegations.
A parliamentary investigation is expected to provide a final report in the coming weeks that may include a criminal accusation recommendation against Bolsonaro for his actions during the public health crisis. The right wing despised the use of masks, opposed the blockade, and talked about the importance of vaccines.
