A 17-year-old high school wrestler who likes to draw and is not afraid to be stupid.
“She’s great,” said her mother, Patricia Medina.
Hazel’s life changed two years ago when she suddenly had a severe pain in her knee.
“When it started, we didn’t even know she had it,” Medina said.
The pain persisted and worsened, but doctors did not give a clear answer as to why it happened until the day after Father’s Day in 2019.
Doctors have confirmed that Hazel has cancer, a rare form of rhabdomyosarcoma.
They told her she had six months to live.
“And she all said,” No, I’m going to push it through. “And they told her: She said, “No, I’m going to get it done,” Medina said.
And for the past two years she has done so.
She is receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy and is constantly beating the odds.
But earlier this week, her health began to deteriorate and she was hospitalized.
The doctor said she had a few weeks to live, so her family began to set some of her last hopes.
Make a Wish’s dream was to visit Safari West, a private wildlife sanctuary in Northern California.
Because of her health, that wasn’t possible.
“Her second wish was to make’Sweet 17′,” the mother said.
So her family began to make plans. They rallyed the Coalinga community on June 12th to make that happen.
But then Hazel got worse.
She said she didn’t want to die in the hospital, so on Friday they allowed her to go home and her family changed “Sweet 17” to Saturday.
“I know it won’t be as big as she wanted, but it will be something,” Medina said.
Everyone should stop by to celebrate Hazel’s Sweet 17 and fulfill her last wish.
“We are celebrating our lives that she is still with us. The media said,” Well, she has overcome all these obstacles and is still here. Congratulations! “
The celebration will take place on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Willow Springs Avenue 1720 in Kollinga.
If you want to make a monetary donation to a party, your family has a GoFundMe page. Please find it here.
