FDA announces dogs will be allowed in outdoor dining areas if restaurants allow

While most Angeleno residents are accustomed to seeing puppies on restaurant patios, the U.S. government has now issued national guidance and is considering whether people can bring pet dogs to dinner. ing.

In 2020, the Food Protection Council, made up of food industry experts, asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to issue national recommendations on whether it’s safe for dogs to enter restaurants.

About three years later, the FDA announced that according to food standards, restaurants would allow dogs in outdoor dining areas.

Ventura Boulevard has plenty of puppy-friendly patios.

“I don’t go where dogs can’t be taken, so I want to take her somewhere where dogs are accepted. I’m more than happy to have her.” Bradley Anderson of Studio City Life magazine told KTLA.

“During the pandemic, people are so attached to animals that they don’t want to keep them at home anymore,” said Mary Healy of Pawsitively Paleo.

She loves to pamper her dogs and makes treats for them when they come over.

“In an established environment with restrictions, I think it’s perfectly fine to not get in the way of people or servers,” she said.

The FDA agrees, saying people’s pet dogs shouldn’t be allowed in restaurants, apart from service dogs.

Yelp searches using the “dogs allowed” filter have increased by about 60% over the past two years, and almost half of the states already allow dogs outside restaurants. The recommendation is now nationwide.

“This will allow people like me who have dogs and love to travel to go to other states and sit outside and eat. It will be,” said dog owner Ilana Minkoff.

California has allowed this for nearly a decade, a decision based on New Zealand studies that the risk of fido being around food is low. The FDA investigated the same study and recommended putting up dog-friendly signs in restaurants. The government also suggested that restaurants that allow dogs should have a plan to dispose of pet waste.

Unfortunately for some people, cats and other pets are still not allowed.
