Los Angeles (AP) —Federal prosecutors have charged four people in connection with the robbery and killing of off-duty Los Angeles police officers, alleging that the suspects have been detained by street gangsters.
27-year-old Fernando Arroyos was hit deadly in an unincorporated area in southern Los Angeles County around 9:15 pm on Monday.
Officials say Arroyos was going to buy a house with his girlfriend when the pickup truck approached and several suspects left. There was debate and a shootout was fought between the perpetrators and the police. Arroyos’ girlfriend wasn’t injured.
Defendants have been charged with violent crimes that encouraged extortion and will first appear in federal court on Friday.
