Celtics bounce back, top Warriors for 2-1 series lead – Press Telegram

BOSTON – Jaylen Brown scored 27 points, Jayson Tatum scored 26 and the Boston Celtics beat another Golden State Warriors attack in the third quarter in a 116-100 victory Wednesday night that gave them a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals .

Marcus Smart added 24 points and helped lead a defensive effort that kept the Warriors at 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Steph Curry led Golden State with 31 points and six triples. He had 15 points in a 33-25 third quarter for the Warriors, but was injured at the end of the quarter after Al Horford rolled his leg with a loose ball. It was similar to a play during the regular season in which Smart dived into Curry’s legs while chasing a loose ball.

Klay Thompson came out of a fall in the finals and finished with 25 points and five triples. But the Warriors’ shot couldn’t save them on a night when the more athletic Celtics overcame their muscles to take a 47-31 rebounding advantage.

Game 4 is Friday in Boston.

Of the 39 times the teams split the first two games of the finals, the winner of Game 3 has won the series 82% of the time.

Powered by the energy of a TD Garden audience mocking Draymond Green during his miserable night in the first game of the NBA Finals in Boston since 2010, the Celtics started fast and led up to 18 points in the first half.

After a loss in the second game in which Boston turned the ball over 19 times, the Celtics’ ball movement was much sharper in midfield, leading to open perimeter shots, 1-on-1 favorable clashes, and driving tracks.

He left the Warriors upset at times, contributing three fouls to Curry in the first 24 minutes.

But in addition to the Boston game, he had his early lead erased in the third quarter by a seven-point possession from the Warriors that included a four-point play from Curry when he tied a flagrant foul on Horford and a triple from Otto Porter. Jr. to put Golden State ahead, 83-82.

Boston bounced back to take a 93-89 lead in the fourth. The Celtics regained the lead to 102-91 in the fourth and beat Golden State 23-11 in the fourth.

The Celtics led 56-39 before an 8-0 lead in just 37 seconds from the Warriors cut the lead to 56-49 on a Curry tray with 3:32 left in the half. The run included a pair of missed free throws by Boston, along with a missed tray and ball loss.

Boston snatched at the end of the half to take a 68-56 lead at halftime.

TIPS

Warriors: Golden State pulled 8 of 23 in the first period.

Celtics: Boston threw 57% in the first half (27 of 47, including 8 of 18 from the 3-point range … With two Brown triples in the first quarter, he and Tatum became the first pair of teammates in Celtic history for each make 50 triples in a single postseason.

PUSHING MATCH

Green was involved in fights with Brown and Grant Williams in Game 2, one that ended with a technical foul on Green.

He had another brief confrontation with Williams in the second quarter on Wednesday when Williams knocked Green to the ground in the middle of the court.

Williams received a foul, but he and Green had a brief confrontation before being quickly separated by officers.
