One dead in Livermore crash on Saturday night

One person was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided with two other vehicles and a traffic pole near the intersection of North Livermore Avenue and Interstate 580 in Livermore Saturday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles stopped at a red light attempted to cross North Livermore Avenue and turn left onto the I-580 westbound ramp when the light turned green. At the same time, a vehicle traveling south on North Livermore Avenue ran a red light and struck both vehicles.

The car then crashed into a utility pole. The driver did not survive the incident. The drivers of his two vehicles who attempted to turn were evaluated at the crash site and denied transportation to hospital.

According to CHP, one northbound and one southbound lane remained open on North Livermore Avenue, resulting in “minimal impact to traffic.”

CHP officers witnessed the crash shortly before 9 p.m. while following reports of a five-car drag race on North Livermore Avenue between Manning and Mayschool streets. .
