Caught on camera: Suspect kidnapped 3-month-old from SJ home while grandmother was unloading groceries, police say

SAN JOSE, California – The suspect who was videotaped taking a baby boy from his apartment in San Jose abducted the baby while his grandmother was unloading groceries, police said in a news conference Monday.

Police say the boy’s grandmother, who was watching him while his mother was at work, called around 1pm to report that the child had been arrested. She is said to have taken 3-month-old Brandon Cuellar into a bedroom while unloading groceries from her car. In a few minutes the baby was arrested and left, according to police.

Police say the grandmother did not see the suspect enter the apartment.

The SJPD says that the father of the child is imprisoned and out of the picture.

Police say Amber Alert was not called due to a lack of suspicious information about the vehicle. The FBI Child Abduction Response Team is now involved in the investigation and every resource is being used to find Cuellar.

“Today, someone is dating a child they did not have yesterday,” SJPD Sgt. said Christian Camarillo.

A cash reward is offered in exchange for the baby.

The SJPD posted pictures of the suspect on Twitter. It is said that the male suspect entered a house on 1000 Elm Street and left with the baby in the stroller.

The suspect is described as having short hair and wearing a gray baseball cap and a black face mask, with black trousers and a dark blue shirt. The family tells police they do not recognize the suspect.

Police say the 3-month-old is Brandon Cuellar and wears a white long-sleeved dinosaur t-shirt. The baby carrier is black with a white blanket.
