Carrick Glen Clinic: Private Ayr hospital bought by NHS

A private hospital in Ayr has been seized by the NHS with plans to turn it into a special center for planned operations.

The Carrick Glen Clinic has been transferred to NHS Ayrshire & Arran to become part of a network of 10 national treatment centers.

The hospital was acquired for £ 1.8 million at Circle BMI on March 31 and will specialize in orthopedics.

The health service will host the building on May 14, and 11 staff are being consulted on future employment arrangements.

The National Medical Center (NTC) program is part of the NHS’s planned recovery, and once fully launched it will provide opportunities for more than 40,000 additional surgeries and procedures in Scotland each year.

Scottish Health Minister Humza Youssef will announce the purchase today (Wednesday, April 13) at Eyre University Hospital, where he will meet with staff and patients of the Orthopedic Services Department.

Mr Youssef said: “I am very pleased that Carrick Glenn Hospital will become a national treatment center specializing in orthopedics.

“These centers will be the largest extension of planned treatment opportunities at NHS Scotland with a total investment of more than £ 400 million.

“We know that the pandemic has affected services such as orthopedics, but the NTC network will help address this and will be central to the NHS’s recovery.

“I would like to thank the NHS Ayrshire & Arran team for their continued hard work and determination to develop the new center under constant considerable pressure.”

Dr Joel Mitchell, consultant anesthesiologist and co-clinical head of NTC Ayrshire and Arran, said: “We are excited to purchase Carrick Glen Hospital to become the new NHS Ayrshire and Arran national treatment center and what that will mean for Ayrshire and Arran residents. and Aran.

“NTC aims to create additional access to theater sessions, increase orthopedic inpatient beds, and improve orthopedic pathways through a full-scale review and restructuring of processes, services, staff, and placement.

“This will complement the elective center of excellence on the Eure University Hospital website and will mean we can treat more patients by reducing waiting times and improving the patient experience.”
