Clark, a 61-year-old man from Needham, Massachusetts, was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, an unusual type of cancer that has developed in his bone marrow.

He was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, but needed a blood stem cell donor.

Through the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, Clark’s partner was identified as a 24-year-old New York woman named Anna.

On Monday, the Gift of Life hosted a sunset soiree on the rooftop of The Envoy Hotel, where Clark had to personally thank Anna for the first time and the two shared a heartfelt hug.

“When I was given a swab six years ago, I never thought I would be lucky enough to have the opportunity to give another person a second chance at life,” Anna told Clark. “I always dreamed the moment I met you and it is really a surreal feeling to be able to see you happy and, most importantly, healthy.”

The Gift of Life Marrow Registry is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults battling leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease and other cancers and genetic disorders to find matching donors for blood and bone marrow stem cell transplants.

Anna encouraged everyone who attended Monday’s soiree to get a cotton swab and sign up for the donation register – and possibly save a life.
