California State Fair will feature cannabis exhibit for 1st time

When you think of the California State Fair, what comes to mind? Many would say fried food, rides, games, and cattle competitions. Well, now you can add cannabis to that list. For the first time, the State Fair presents the California Cannabis Exhibition. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older to enter the showroom and no commercial sale of cannabis or commercial consumption of cannabis is allowed on site. Admission is included on your state general fair ticket; you don’t need to pay extra. Organizers say the exhibition aims to educate the public about the cannabis plant, its history and where the cannabis industry in our state is headed. Fifty-five speakers, as well as farmers and experts will be present to lead the multiple exhibitions. You can also meet the winners of the “Golden Bear Awards”. More than 300 entries were evaluated for this year’s competition and a total of 60 trophies and medals were handed out. “It’s all a science-based, lab-tested competition,” said KCRA 3 Brian Applegarth, who helped produce the first exhibit. “Literally, with each contest winner, there’s a science lab test where you can see the different therapeutic chemicals that exist in that unique variety.” Experts, organizers, farmers and dispensaries say the existence of this exhibition is important to their industry. “It shows how far we’ve come in that we’re willing and prepared to have something like this that can help educate the population about the importance of this industry to the state,” Danny Kress said. He represents The Therapeutic Alternative, one of Sacramento’s dispensaries.
