California rain: Series of storms to bring rain, snow to Central CA. What you need to know

Fresno, CA (KFSN)-After nearly a month of rain in Central California, a series of storms will bring terrible weather to the region next week.

ABC30 meteorologist Madeline Evans says the first storm arrives overnight and lasts until Thursday morning. Drivers should be careful as widespread rain hits the valley during early commute hours.

Snow also falls on the mountain community all day long. Winter weather recommendations are valid from 7 pm Wednesday to 4 pm Thursday.

Above 5,000 feet above sea level on Thursday, according to Madeline Evans, about 1/4 inch rain and 5-12 inch snowfall can be seen on the valley floor.

But it’s a fast-moving storm, and by Thursday 4 pm most of the valley has dried up.

Weekends remain mostly quiet, but cold fronts cool down. From 11:00 am on Friday to 9:00 am on Saturday, a freezing monitoring device is installed to keep the temperature below freezing.

By Sunday afternoon, the rain will be back with the storm again.

According to Madeline Evans, Accuweather alerts are enabled on Mondays and Tuesdays due to extensive rain in the Central Valley and snow in the mountains.

It is predicted that it will rain 2-3 inches on the floor of the valley and 5-6 inches on the hills.

During this second storm, the total snow will also increase. You could probably see Yosemite 96 inches, Lake Shaver 26 inches, and Sequoia National Park 63 inches.

“We absolutely need this rain and snow, but when we get it very quickly, we see dangerous driving conditions in the mountains and the possibility of flooding in the valleys.” Madelyne Evans said.

The third system will move to the next Wednesday afternoon after a short break in the morning. The rain will continue next Thursday, but it will be dry by Friday.

ABC30’s Accuweather team is tracking the storm and will continue to provide the latest updates.
